What North Carolina For The People does
Mission
To educate the public on how to build a democracy where everyone participates, every vote is counted, voting rights are fully enforced, and everyone's voice is heard; to work toward a system where everyone has a say in decisions that affect our lives, and to be fairly represented by elected officials who are responsive to our needs in order to make our lives better.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.
Programs
In 2024, the organization worked to enhance democracy and strengthen civic participation at a time of significant challenge. The organization launched 'Why Judges Matter NC' to highlight the important role courts play in shaping policies that affect everyday life, helping increase awareness and participation in judicial elections. 'Why Judges Matter NC' was a website that was the product/effort of several 501(c)(3) civic education related organizations. The organization also engaged in election administration education to educate citizens about how elections are administered. So this was the nuts and bolts of how to register, how to vote, by absentee ballot, the locations and times of voting venues, both for early voting and the day of the election.

Who funds it, year by year
Grant support over time, funder by funder — shade shows the grant size each year.
2 of 4 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 62% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

How concentrated its funding is
North Carolina For The People leans on a few funders — its largest provides 35% of grant income and the top three 97%; half comes from just 2 funders.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left
100% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund North Carolina For The People.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
62% of North Carolina For The People's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $165k that is directly attributable, 100% of it comes from funders outside North Carolina, across 2 states.
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $265k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
