What Nicoya Peninsula Foundation does
Mission
The Nicoya Peninsula Foundation (npf) is the community foundation for the greater santa teresa and cobano district areas of costa rica, channeling donor generosity and local partnerships into high-impact projects that strengthen the region's future.with steadfast support from our partners and benefactors, we deliver measurable results that keep our community resilient, vibrant, and sustainable for generations. Our funding focuses on three essential areas environment, infrastructure, and social services.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.
Program
In its inaugural year, the Nicoya Peninsula Foundation (npf) has made a remarkable impact across the santa teresa/cobano district area of costa rica, advancing initiatives in its core focus areas: environment, infrastructure, and social services. Grants were distributed to support critical projects spanning multiple communities, including cobano, las brisas, mal pais, manzanillo, montezuma, san isidro, and santa teresa.key to these efforts was the continued collaboration with mayor ronny montero and a new partnership with the muni environmental office to address garbage transfer-station solutions. Regular engagement with five public schools, the st/mp adi, catuza, fuerza publica, and policia turistica has bolstered social services and town security efforts. By deepening ties with six other community foundations across costa rica, npf is working to create scalable, high-impact solutions.these achievements are supported by the successful registration of npf as a local nonprofit in costa rica, enabling direct contributions from individuals and businesses, and by the launch of a pilot project with nantipa hotel to explore innovative funding mechanisms.working alongside a diverse…

Who funds it, year by year
Grant support over time, funder by funder — shade shows the grant size each year.
2 of 4 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 94% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of NICOYA PENINSULA FOUNDATION’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
NICOYA PENINSULA FOUNDATION leans on a few funders — its largest provides 53% of grant income and the top three 99%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
94% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund NICOYA PENINSULA FOUNDATION.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
94% of NICOYA PENINSULA FOUNDATION's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $110k that is directly attributable, 100% of it comes from funders outside Florida, across 2 states.
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $1.8M arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
