Mission

NEMA is the professional association of emergency management directors from all 50 states, 8 territories and DC. We provide national leadership and expertise in comprehensive emergency management; serve as a vital emergency management information and assistance resource; and advance continuous improvement. NEMA is the source of information, support and expertise for those who prepare for, mitigate, respond to, recover from and provide products and services for all emergencies, disasters and threats to the nation's security. Our focus is to 1. Strengthen the relationship with Congress and federal agencies; 2. Develop strategic partnerships; 3. Tackle emergency management issues; 4. Hold two national conferences annually; 5. Serve as an information-sharing and support network for state directors and senior staff; and 6. Offer professional development and training.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Conferences - Each year NEMA holds two national conferences to provide a forum to discuss national and regional emergency management strategies with other emergency management professionals from around the country and with experts in the field. The conferences focus on policy development, emergency management concerns, legislative issues and federal relations. They give attendees the opportunity to hear, first-hand, the latest on issues that impact their agencies' programs.
