What National Association of Certified Professional Midwives does

Mission

VisionNACPM envisions a primary birth care system in our country where all birthing people access care through a midwife, where birth place is the choice of the family, and where all childbearing people and their babies have the same chance to be healthy. PurposeNACPMs purpose is to be a powerful, collective voice for Certified Professional Midwives. We strengthen and support excellence in the profession and influence birth health policy to ensure that all childbearing people and babies have a healthy start.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Advocate for the profession of Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs), both to support CPMs and to improve birth care outcomes in the United States. Participate in national healthcare collaborations and conferences and represent the profession to the public and to policy makers. Support the development of the profession by sharing key information and providing continuing education opportunities through website, email, meetings, webinars, and the development of the practice committee.

  2. Develop and advocate for federal bills that aim to increase access to midwives and to quality birth care, consistent with the midwives model of care, by securing Federal recognition of reimbursement parity for Certified Professional Midwives.

  3. Support, expand and diversify the CPM workforce by participating in and supporting research, advocacy and dissemination of information to stakeholders.

How concentrated its funding is

National Association of Certified Professional Midwives leans on a few funders — its largest provides 97% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

100% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund National Association of Certified Professional Midwives.
