01What it does

What Munising Bay Trail Network does

Mission

Create and maintain a non motorized multi-use trail system that provides a place to experience mountain biking, hiking, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, trail running and more in a natural environment while providing the opportunity to increase commerce for area businesses

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.

Programs

  1. Build new climb trail to access the City bike trails in Munising. Reroute at the bottom to avoid an unsustainable area (trail has been collapsing to the wet clay on a trail cut on the hillside).

    $57,080 spent
    50% of program spending
  2. Groom and maintain 24 miles of ski trails and 4 miles of snowshoe trails. This allowed approximately 2,500 to utilize the trails.

    $52,873 spent
    47% of program spending
  3. Purchase skis, boots and bindings to begin youth skate ski program. The first season had 3 children participating with the intent to expand in future years.

The 3 programs described on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ. Program spending in total: $113,233.

1 of 4 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 3% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of MUNISING BAY TRAIL NETWORK’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

MUNISING BAY TRAIL NETWORK leans on a few funders — its largest provides 47% of grant income and the top three 97%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

94% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund MUNISING BAY TRAIL NETWORK.

Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 100% · 2020 100% · 2021 100% · 2022 100% · 2023 100% — broadly stable.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Where its funders are

MUNISING BAY TRAIL NETWORK draws 52% of its grant income from funders outside Michigan, across 3 states in all.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $454 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
