What Movers and Shakas does
Mission
The mission of Movers and Shakas is to integrate and retain key talent, especially returning kamaaina, to tackle brain drain, grow the economy, and build community. Our hitop program creates an immersive hawaii 101 experience, enabling our participants to thrive in hawaii while benefiting other key stakeholders, such as local employers and the state of hawaii at large.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.
Program
Movers and Shakas main program is hawaii talent onboarding program (hitop), which is a six-week initiative designed to help new and returning residents adjust and succeed in hawaii. Movers and Shakas also aid local businesses in keeping their top talent. Through engaging activities such as cultural education, community service, and networking, participants get a deep dive into what it means to live and work in hawaii. They enhance their job performance, forge meaningful connections, and develop a strong sense of belonging and responsibility toward their new home. This program stands out because, unlike typical workplace orientations that focus solely on company culture, hitop emphasizes the importance of understanding and integrating into the broader community of hawaii. It enables leaders from various fields to come together in groups of 20-30, helping them build relationships across different sectors and deepen their understanding of hawaii's unique cultural and social dynamics. While the program is currently principally based in o`ahu, hitop is proactively extending its reach through one-day pilot initiatives and visits to neighboring islands, ensuring the inclusion of a wider…

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2023, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2023, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2024 to 2025, from $214k to $318k (+49%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2023 23% · 2024 14% · 2025 4%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.
36% of MOVERS AND SHAKAS’s revenue is contributions — about as donation-reliant as the typical peer (57% for the typical peer).
