01What it does

What Modern Catholic Pilgrim does

Mission

Provide opportunities for Catholic pilgrimage.

As stated on its FY2023 Form 990.

Programs

On its FY2023 return the organization reported starting a significant new program.

In 2023, MCP began to provide the National Eucharistic Congress with direct oversight of the NEP, including development of the walking routes and selection of perpetual pilgrims; the maintenance of the hospitality network necessary to provide for the pilgrims along the way; the interaction with local, regional, and national Church and governmental bodies; and the pre-pilgrimage engagement with the perpetual pilgrims. In late 2023, the scope of services to be provided by MCP was amended to reassign ownership of the direct expenses related to the NEP from MCP to the National Eucharistic Congress. As a result, the remaining service fee to be paid to MCP was reduced. For 2024, we expect that program service expenses will be significantly higher than program service revenue related to the NEP.

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 2).

  1. We began work on the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage, hiring staff members, and receiving revenue for the work. We have coordinated for thousands of pilgrims to walk through 25 states along four routes for two months in the summer of 2024.
