What Metro Organization for Racial Economic Equity Inc does

Mission

More2 trains and develops leaders from the faith community, across lines of religion, race, socio-economic status, geography, to work together to address the communitys most pressing issues of inequity.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

  1. The bpep program focuses on training and development of kansas clergy leaders, year round, through a statewide table called faith in democracy. Twenty-five congregations benefit from the leadership development and new communication tools from our bpep program. Our board includes dozens of members of faith institutions, and they each benefit from trained and developed leadership as well as the opportunity to connect with community via better communications platforms.

  2. The purpose of the kansas integrated voter engagement program is to teach and develop leaders to engage voters in their communities. Specifically, faith leaders are trained to engage voters about the issues related to safe, healthy and vibrant communities and how this specifically connects to the power of voting and otherwise engaging in democracy (such as attending public meetings). Etc.) over 58,000 voters were contacted. We had an amazing response rate: typically, text banking yields 1-4% interactions but our faith leaders achieved 12%.

  3. The kcmo civic engagement program educated voters particularly in kansas city missouri. We trained leaders on voter engagement tools, like text banking, then used those tools to increase voter turnout in low propensity areas. 38,000 voters contacted; thirteen leaders trained in missouri.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2018 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 4 funders, grant income rose $35k → $284k.

3 of 14 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 5% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of METRO ORGANIZATION FOR RACIAL ECONOMIC EQUITY INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

METRO ORGANIZATION FOR RACIAL ECONOMIC EQUITY INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 39% of grant income and the top three 77%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

94% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund METRO ORGANIZATION FOR RACIAL ECONOMIC EQUITY INC.

Largest funder’s share by year: 2018 100% · 2020 35% · 2021 68% · 2022 27% · 2023 53% — diversifying over time.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. How long its funders stay

29% of METRO ORGANIZATION FOR RACIAL ECONOMIC EQUITY INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 50% give in more than one year at all.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $94k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
