What Memorialize the Movement does
Mission
Memorialize the Movement (MTM) is a living archive dedicated to collecting, preserving, and activating the plywood protest murals that were created during the Minneapolis Uprising of 2020 and beyond. By providing space for youth, artists, and our BIPOC community to heal, reflect, and learn, MTM seeks to address the issues of police brutality, community safety, and representation for Black and Brown creatives and conservationists.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990-EZ.
Program
In October 2023, Memorialize the Movement successfully moved the 1000+ murals in our collections to our new headquarters at 3140 Snelling Avenue S Minneapolis. In February 2024 we began professionally photographing each mural in our stewardship as part of a year-long archiving project which resulted in the publication of our first printed catalog of murals. Then in May 2024 we hosted our 4th annual Justice for George event at our HQ, featuring murals from the minneapolis uprising, a panel discussion, documentary film screening, 6 live musicians, food and art vendors, and 4 BIPOC women muralists who painted a 40ft mural on the facade of our headquarters.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2022, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2022, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2022 to 2023, from $28k to $14k (−49%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Surplus & reserves
Operating surplus or deficit each year, and months of liquidity in hand. 3 of the last 3 reported years ran a deficit.
