01What it does

What Mdi Commercial Services does

Mission

Mdi's vision is meaningful employment opportunities for all people with disabilities and is supported through our mission to serve people with disabilities by offering inclusive employment opportunities and services. Refer to schedule o for additional detail.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Program

On its FY2024 return the organization reported starting a significant new program.

For over 60 years, mdi has accumulated a significant amount of institutional knowledge regarding how to increase the employability of people with disabilities by intentionally developing employees' skills, behaviors and work experiences in our inclusive work places, emphasizing our core values of employee first, customer focused, respect, do the right thing and empower individual ability. With this knowledge, mdi created and continues to grow and invest in our unified work program. After completing research supported by the center for appled research and educational improvement with the university of minnesota we are now creating curriculum specialized for people with disabilities. The goal of the curriculum is to help increase a person's "employability", helping mdi achieve its vision of meaningful employment for all people with disabilities, while giving opportunities for the participants to experience success. There are two main areas of focus for our current program: academy classes 1. Create the curriculum based on the research completed which will provide a diverse selection of trainings. This curriculum will build on the existing course already offered. 2. Delievery of the training through live in-person and virtual classes and through an online learning management system. Experiential learning 1. Provide virtual reality work experiences in a variety of industries to people with disabilities and deliver these experiences. 2. Offer stem experiences to help people with…

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 2).

  1. Mdi is a social enterprise business model employing both people with and without disbilities. Individuals with disabilities develop skills through training and support which allows them to gain experience and earn more than minimum wage and benefits. Employee development is inherent in our work with employees with disabilities, getting opportunities to gain skills that allow them to apply for and get promotions. Mdi also offers work and training programs for schools, county and rehabilitation agencies. Mdi's vision is meaningful employment for all people with disabilities. In 2024, unified work provided soft skills training and experiences to people with disabilities through 26 classes with 500 participants. Classes are either in person or via zoom and are effective not only for people with disabilities but also people with other barriers to employment. New service options include: 1. Launching of the unified work online learning platform so people with disabilities can have access to similiar experiences at any time, almost anywhere. 2. Offering virtual reality work experiences that provide three to five minute opportunities for people with disabilities to get experiences in a…

1 of 1 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 100% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of MDI COMMERCIAL SERVICES’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Where its funders are

100% of MDI COMMERCIAL SERVICES's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Too little is directly attributable to place on a map.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $117 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
