01What it does

What Maggies Brightside Inc does

Mission

The mission of Maggies Brightside is to make life a little easier for people living with Cancer.

As stated on its FY2020 Form 990-EZ.

Program

Maggies Brightside has built a network of community affiliates in Vermont, who create opportunities for individuals living with cancer, to have access to discounted services and products. In order to do this, we offer the Maggie Card. Those who carry a Maggie Card receive discounts on needed products and services while they battle cancer. Our local partners offer easy access to discounts, promote affordable access to healthy options, and increase awareness of the challenges faced by those living with cancer. MBS has 164 cardholders, 66 business partners, and attends multiple outreach events.

Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2018 → 2020: the base held at 1 funder, grant income fell $2k → $62.

1 of 2 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 3% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of MAGGIES BRIGHTSIDE INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

MAGGIES BRIGHTSIDE INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 97% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Where its funders are

MAGGIES BRIGHTSIDE INC draws 100% of its grant income from funders outside Vermont, across 1 state in all.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $62 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
