01What it does

What LRGHealthcare does

Mission

HGRL's mission was to provide quality, compassionate care and to strengthen the well-being of its community.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990-EZ.

Program

On its FY2020 return the organization reported a significant change in how it conducts a program.

On October 19, 2020, the Hospitals entered into an asset purchase agreement with Concord Hospital, Inc. to acquire certain assets of Lakes Region General Hospital and Franklin Regional Hospital. Upon execution of the Agreement, the Hospitals filed a voluntary case under Chapter 11 of the United States bankruptcy code. The Hospitals continued to operate their business as a "debtor in possession" under the jurisdiction of the Bankruptcy Court and in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Bankruptcy Code and the orders of the Bankruptcy Court. On December 24, 2020, the court entered the Order (I) Approving the Sale of Substantially All of The Debtor's Estate Free and Clear of All Interests, (II) Approving the Assumption and Assignment of Certain Executory Contracts and Unexpired Leases, and (III) Granting Related Relief. Accordingly, HGRL ceased all hospital and healthcare services as of May, 2021. All activity after the May 2021 transaction consisted of wind-down transactions and bankruptcy proceedings.

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 3).

  1. HGRL and Subsidiary (f/k/a LRGHealthcare, the Institution) is a New Hampshire not-for-profit corporation that previously owned and operated two hospitals and their affiliated programs and services in the Twin Rivers and Lake Winnipesaukee regions of NH approximately 90 miles north of Boston, MA. The Institution formerly operated as a healthcare system comprised of Lakes Region General Hospital (LRGH) and Franklin Regional Hospital (FRH). HGRL has ceased all hospital and healthcare services as of May, 2021. All activity after the May 2021 transaction consisted of wind-down transactions and bankruptcy proceedings. 03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base narrowed from 5 funders to 1 funder, grant income fell $152k → $0.

2 of 9 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 15% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of LRGHealthcare’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 8 of 9 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

LRGHealthcare leans on a few funders — its largest provides 58% of grant income and the top three 82%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

88% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund LRGHealthcare.

Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 62% · 2018 85% · 2019 52% · 2020 75% · 2021 100% — growing more concentrated.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How long its funders stay

17% of LRGHealthcare's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 56% give in more than one year at all.

Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2021, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.

Where its funders are

LRGHealthcare draws 71% of its grant income from funders outside New Hampshire, across 3 states in all.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $81k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
