01What it does

What Little River Wetlands Project Inc does

Mission

To restore and protect wetlands in the historic watershed of the little river, a major tributary of the wabash river, and to provide educational opportunities that encourage good stewardship of wetlands and other natural ecosystems.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. Seed to marsh program: lrwp creatively blends its dual mission of wetland restoration and education through seed to marsh, a hands-on initiative where community members collect native seeds, grow them into seedlings, and transplant them into the wetlands. These efforts help restore areas impacted by invasive species. Participants learn about native flora and restoration practices, contributing directly to ecosystem health. Plants grown through the program are also shared through free plant giveaways and seed libraries, extending benefits to the broader community. Educational outreach: since 2006, lrwp's free educational programming has reached more than 145,000 individuals. Programs are inclusive and stem- based, serving audiences from preschool to college through field trips, guided hikes, senior programs, and major public events like earth day fort wayne and the monarch festival. In 2025 alone, over 8,000 people participated, including 1,500 children participating in free school field trip programming, with approximately 35% from historically underserved communities. Citizen science: eagle marsh serves as a regional hub for citizen science, offering opportunities for trained…

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 7 funders to 12 funders, grant income rose $110k → $137k.

6 of 33 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 27% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

LITTLE RIVER WETLANDS PROJECT INC has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 21% of grant income, and it takes 4 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 4 funders to its left

51% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund LITTLE RIVER WETLANDS PROJECT INC.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $227k arriving through sponsors registered in 5 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
