01What it does

What Lawrence Hopewell Trail Corporation does

Mission

The Lawrence Hopewell Trail Corporation, through collaboration with community, government, corporate and nonprofit partners, promotes and guides the construction, maintenance, use, and enjoyment of a 22-mile pedestrian/bicycle trail loop connecting lawrence and hopewell townships in mercer county, new jersey, and actively encourages connections to adjacent areas and regional trail networks to ensure an enduring amenity supported by the people it serves.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Program

  1. The award-winning lawrence hopewell trail (lht) is a 22-mile, multipurpose, mostly off-road, environmentally sensitive trail developed by a citizen-led volunteer board of trustees. As of 2022, 95% of the trail has been completed. Plans are underway for the funding, design, and construction of the remainder. What is not reflected in the financial statements is the fact that in collaboration with county and township…

Who funds it, year by year

2019 → 2023: the base broadened from 3 funders to 4 funders, grant income rose $3k → $63k.

4 of 12 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 6% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of LAWRENCE HOPEWELL TRAIL CORPORATION’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $35k arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
