What Kiski Valley Cat & Kitten Rescue does
Mission
Kiski Valley Cat & Kitten Rescue is dedicated to the prevention of cruelty and neglect toward cats by providing shelter to homeless cats as long as it takes until a safe and permanent home of their own is found. When deemed necessary, veterinary treatment, including spaying neutering and distemper and rabies vaccinations are obtained for the cats. Euthanasia is not considered unless a cat is gravely ill and then it is done to prevent or end the cat's suffering.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990-EZ.
Programs
In 2024 KVCKR transported countless numbers of cats and kittens to clinics for spay/neutering, rabies and distemper vaccinations, and Leukemia and FIV testing. If fleas, worms, or ear mites were detected the cats received treatment.
$900 spent11% of program spendingKVCKR sheltered in excess of 150 cats at any given time in 2024. The cats were given veterinary care, fresh water daily and were fed both dry and canned food. They were provided with pleasant living conditions, including heated buildings, air conditioning, water fountains, and outdoor enclosed patios. Our "feral" cats and our Leukemic cats who were otherwise healthy were not euthanized, but were provided with the same care as the more adoptable of our population. The cats at KVCKR are allowed to live out their lives at the shelter if adoptive homes are not found for them. Our cats are not euthanized until they are suffering from old age and/or appear to have a fatal illness and have no quality of life remaining.
$7,000 spent89% of program spending100 KVCKR cats and kittens were placed in loving adoptive homes in 2024.
$0 spent0% of program spendingKVCKR donated or provided at cost flea, worm, and ear mite treatments for community cats. KVCKR helped local communities get their cat populations under control by loaning out traps for TNR, and by absorbing the cost of the spay/neutering as funds were available. Both dry and canned cat food was donated to persons feeding outdoor colonies of cats as excess food became available to the shelter.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2020 to 2021, from $10k to $56k (+480%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
74% of KISKI VALLEY CAT & KITTEN RESCUE’s revenue is contributions — about as donation-reliant as the typical peer (100% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2020 → 2023: the base narrowed from 2 funders to 1 funder, grant income fell $2k → $474.
2 of 4 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 35% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of KISKI VALLEY CAT & KITTEN RESCUE’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
KISKI VALLEY CAT & KITTEN RESCUE leans on a few funders — its largest provides 61% of grant income and the top three 95%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
35% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund KISKI VALLEY CAT & KITTEN RESCUE.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2020 89% · 2021 84% · 2022 64% · 2023 100% — growing more concentrated.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
KISKI VALLEY CAT & KITTEN RESCUE draws 100% of its grant income from funders outside Pennsylvania, across 2 states in all.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $7k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
