01What it does

What Jersey City Parks Coalition Inc does

Mission

Our organization started in 2005 as partnership between three park groups that has grown to 24 member park groups strong in 2017. A memorandum of understanding codified our partnership with the city of jersey city in 2013 and we continue to improve and build on that public private partnership. Our success would not be possible without the consistent effort and dedication of our many volunteers; the thousands of residents who continue to beautify jersey city as a result of their involvement in the big dig and other planting efforts; the parks and neighborhood groups that are stewards for their local parks, and our board of directors that keeps the organization focused and on track. Behind the scenes but no less important to all we do is the support of our donors & sponsors.

As stated on its FY2017 Form 990.

Program

"liberty state park - in february the jersey city parks coalition (jcpc) and 57 local, regional and statewide organizations wrote the governor and state legislators to urge them to support legislation revising the hackensack meadowlands consolidation act (p.l.2015, c. 19) to remove any and all decision-making authority concerning liberty state park from newly created meadowlands regional commission and return it to the state department of environmental protection (dep). While there was some measured success with this effort we enter the new year with an ever present threat of the privatization of liberty state park. "plays in the parks - the jersey city children's theater (jcct) proudly partnered with the jersey city parks coalition (jcpc) in its second annual plays in the parks (pitp) series featuring world play: a sensory adventure through some of your favorite stories featuring jcct's company of professional adult actors and live music. Because of the overwhelming success of pitp 2014 jcct expanded plays in the parks programming from 4 to 12 jersey city parks which were all free and open to the public our thanks go out to kathy hendrickson and her entire ensemble for a fabulous…

02Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2021 → 2022: the base held at 1 funder, grant income fell $16k → $200.

1 of 3 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 94% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

How concentrated its funding is

JERSEY CITY PARKS COALITION INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 94% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

94% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund JERSEY CITY PARKS COALITION INC.

Where its funders are

94% of JERSEY CITY PARKS COALITION INC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $950 that is directly attributable, 100% of it comes from funders outside New Jersey, across 1 state.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $16k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
