What Inspire Idaho Inc does

Mission

We mentor young people aging out of foster care to help them flourish as adults.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Life-skills workshops- we gather young people experiencing foster care, connect them with mentors, and help them to reimagine who they can become through interactive, topic-driven workshops. Smaller breakouts after the presentation facilitate mentor/youth interaction. Workshops meet once a week for 90 minutes for 3 consecutive weeks, followed by a fun event on the 4th week. A family hosts workshops in their home and we provide a meal each night. Workshop topics include: dreaming: learning to dream and overcome barriers to pursue the life we want built to last: how life-transforming habits help us to achieve our dreams we all have a story: personal stories of perseverance and redemption challenge: games that build trust, problem- solving skills, and teamwork money: how to manage our money to help achieve our dreams physical health: how the way we eat, sleep, and move affects our lives emotional health: learning to understand and manage our emotions making food I enjoy: learning how to make healthy, tasty, and affordable meals connecting events having fun together is crucial to connecting and building trust. Whether its a swimming party or bbq, white water rafting or rock climbing,…

  2. Personal mentoring- life-on-life mentoring is the heart of inspire idaho, as one adult mentor gets to know who a young person is and wants to be, and helps them build a roadmap to get there. It is our honor to walk alongside young people before and after they age out of foster care to remind them of their value, offer them hope, and equip them to flourish by becoming the best version of themselves. Mentoring relationships form organically, over time, at workshops and events. Three things make inspire idaho mentoring unique: dual focus: many organizations serve foster youth, either before or after they age out of the system at age 18. Inspire idaho does both. By building relationships with teens under 18, we establish a platform of trust that allows us to continue mentoring them when they age out. Personalized: following an evidenced-based approach called, self- determination, we guide youth to define their big win (the life they want to live) and then help them begin to stack smaller wins that will help them to experience their big win over time. Along the way, we help them learn to flourish personally, spiritually, and practically. Long-term: genuine life change doesnt happen…

  3. Vocational training- we equip young people with the character, confidence, and skills they need to care for themselves and provide for others, by helping them: learn to work: we connect youth with one-off, project- oriented jobs that are clear and measurable (e.g., moving rocks, pulling weeds, mowing a lawn, etc.). Youth do not get paid by the hour but by the job, after the task is completed. This approach teaches them the value of working hard, persevering, being responsible, etc. Find and apply for hourly jobs: mentors guide our youth through the process of locating, applying for, and starting hourly jobs. Add value on-the-job: mentors and workshops help our youth to develop the character and disciplines they need to succeed and advance on-the-job (e.g., the value of being punctual, dressing appropriately, working hard, guarding their attitude, following instructions, respecting other employees, seeing and doing what needs to be done, etc.). Explore career paths: mentors guide their mentees to discover and explore careers that interest them, which often includes: connecting them with one or more of our vocational training partners (local businesses) who may provide shadowing,…

  4. Car program- 9 out of 10 foster teens age out of the system without a drivers license. Even fewer have access to a reliable vehicle. Lack of reliable transportation keeps these young people from getting a good job, attending school, and becoming independent. We provide vehicles for qualified, 18+ year-old teens in the inspire idaho community to help them work and/or attend school, become independent, and develop responsibility to help them flourish as adults. Youth who successfully complete this developmental, 9-month program take ownership of their vehicle. 03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2022 → 2023: the base broadened from 4 funders to 5 funders, grant income fell $112k → $92k.

4 of 9 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 56% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of INSPIRE IDAHO INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

INSPIRE IDAHO INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 42% of grant income and the top three 83%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

58% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund INSPIRE IDAHO INC.

Where its funders are

56% of INSPIRE IDAHO INC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $125k that is directly attributable, 96% of it comes from Idaho funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $157k arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
