01What it does

What Independent Electrical Contractors Assoc does

Mission

The purpose of iec of kentucky and southern indiana is to empower the merit shop electrical contracting community through specialized training initiatives. We exist to provide comprehensive apprenticeship programs and continuing education opportunities for individuals and businesses engaged in electrical work. Our commitment is to equip merit shop contractors with the knowledge, skills, and expertise needed to thrive in the dynamic field of electrical services.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Our apprenticeship program is our four-year electrical training program that seeks to provide the skills needed to become a master electrician. This takes place in the form of on-the-job training hours, classroom instruction, and hands on labs. This prepares a student to take all tests required by the state of kentucky and officiates training hours through employment at an electrical contractor that is a member of the iec of kentucky and southern indiana. Class time is one night per week and on-the-job training is organized with the contractor and reported to the iec of kentucky and southern indiana by the student.

  2. Membership at the iec of kentucky and southern indiana entails the provision of membership benefits to the members. This is subject to change year over year as deemed necessary by the employees and officers of the iec of kentucky and southern indiana. Some benefits include weekly toolbox talks, discounts to continuing education hours, networking within the industry, and access to our apprenticeship program.

  3. Continuing education: our continuing education program provides continuing education training to already licensed electricians. All electricians and contractors are required by law to have continuing education hours on a yearly basis and the iec of kentucky and southern indiana provides this to the contracting community for both contractors and electricians. This is provided in six-hour classes.

The 3 programs described on its FY2023 Form 990, listed largest first by expense.
