What Hawaii Aquaculture and Aquaponics Association Haaa does
Mission
Educate the public, government, and industry stakeholders about the potential and benefit of aquaculture products to improve Hawaii's ability to be self-sufficient and self-sustaining; to expand understanding about aquaculture's contribution to the conservation of Hawaii's limited natural resources; and to promote Hawaii's aquaculture products and services locally, domestically, and internationally to confirm Hawaii's reputation as a center of excellence for applied research and aquaculture technology.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.
Programs
At the end of 2025, HAAA received a $50,000 grant from Ulupono Initiative to conduct a statewide aquaculture baseline survey. The survey involves compiling information from existing sources about the current scope, future potential, and producers' concerns regarding Hawaii's aquaculture and aquaponic industries. To fill in gaps in currently available information, interviews will be conducted with aquaculture and aquaponic producers, academic researchers, and government personnel. A final report will be prepared and provided to Ulupono Initiative, which in turn will submit the report to Hawaii's Department of Agriculture and Biosecurity and to State legislators to help develop forward-looking policies regarding aquaculture and aquaponics. Since the funding was received in late December 2025, no expenses were accrued for this project until 2026, so the amount reported on this form is 0.

HAAA also celebrated its 50th anniversary as an organization with a planning and networking session followed by entertainment; the event brought together more than 70 producers, researchers, and legislators and staff.

1 of 1 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 100% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Where its funders are
100% of HAWAII AQUACULTURE AND AQUAPONICS ASSOCIATION HAAA's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Too little is directly attributable to place on a map.
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $261 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
