01What it does

What Greater Eastover Neighborhood Foundation Inc does

Mission

To benefit the general public as a charitable class by combating urban blight which results from suburban sprawl.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Safety and beautification:the foundation has a multi-phase plan to improve the appearance of the community's entrances, intersections, and common areas. This year, the foundation undertook the gate construction at our meadowbrook road entrance as part of our ongoing effort to calm traffic. We also replaced aging decorative signage, installed additional signage, and made improvements and updates to the extensive landscaping throughout the neighborhood.

  2. Community outreach:safe, healthy, successful communities are ones in which neighbors know each other and look out for each other. The foundation believes in strengthening the community by providing opportunities for people to connect with one another. To that end, the foundation sponsored our annual halloween block party which brings hundreds of neighbors from the eastover neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods together and we also sponsored our annual easter party and egg hunt. In addition, the foundation has an ongoing partnership with casey elementary, a local neighborhood school, to support their programs and other needs. This year, we were able to support their programming and performances by replacing their stage curtains that were many decades old.

  3. Communication: vital to the success of any organization is the ability to communicate effectively. In addition to the numerous print communications that the foundation sends out to area residents, we also send electronic news and updates. This year, the foundation continued its support of a publication directed at our community that covers stories on residents and events in our area. We contribute content and publish a recognition list of our donors monthly. This communication brings neighbors together and strengthens our sense of community by featuring stories on the activities and accomplishments of residents, among other areas of interest to our community.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 3 funders, grant income rose $2k → $26k.

2 of 6 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 62% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of GREATER EASTOVER NEIGHBORHOOD FOUNDATION INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

GREATER EASTOVER NEIGHBORHOOD FOUNDATION INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 54% of grant income and the top three 94%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

62% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund GREATER EASTOVER NEIGHBORHOOD FOUNDATION INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $86k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
