Mission

Community and neighborhood improvement and development

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990-EZ.

Programs

  1. CONNECTED AND ENGAGED COMMUNITIES: GCHIC partnered with another community nonprofit to plan a seven-week Civic Leadership Institute, where municipal officials and community members learned how to become better and more effective advocates for their communities. Initial planning began in the last quarter of this fiscal year, and the bulk of the program was completed in 2024. We also prepared and sent an informational brochure to nearly every household in our focus area, to heighten public awareness of our organization and its activities. Finally, we held community events designed to inform residents of several key development projects making their way through the governmental review and permitting process.

  2. CAPITOL HEIGHTS-ADDISON ROAD METRO ("CHARM") GATEWAY REVITALIZATION: GCHIC continued planning related to its Transportation Infrastructure and Economic Development ("TIED") Plan for the area, which will form the basis of a future community plan. This work dovetails with the county executive's Central Avenue-Metro Blue Line Corridor initiative.
