GAI SELVA supports sustainable development projects in the Peruvian Amazon by maintaining an ecological preserve and educating students from the US and local communities about the need for sustainable practices. Through its educational programs and local outreach it assists in the development of sustainable tropical forest industries.

GAI, through its GAI Selva Project, for 22 years offered an acclaimed graduate program in medicinal plants and natural medicine to hundreds of Pharmacy graduate students and faculty from colleges of Pharmacy throughout the US. It supported scientific research and development in the area around Iquitos, Peru, working closely with local universities and the Peruvian National Institute for Traditional Medicine (IMET); and it continues to develop and implemented a variety of projects to train and employ members of local communities.
