What Genetic Support Foundation Inc does
Mission
To provide up-to-date, objective information to patients and the healthcare community, support those in need of genetic services, and facilitate the adoption of best practices through advocacy, education and direct patient care.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.
Programs
Provided genetic counseling services for patients connecting directly with the organization as well as patients seen at contracted partner sites through multiple service delivery models. Specifically, providing direct education and counseling on genetic conditions, inheritance patterns, genetic testing options and genetic testing results. Genetic counseling services allowed for accurate genetic diagnoses, more cost-effective and beneficial medical care, and improved quality of life and long-term health outcomes. Served thousands of patients across a variety of specialties and indications, including prenatal, oncology, cardiology, neurology, and general genetics. Provided financial aid to cover or subsidize genetic counseling visits for those who qualify in order to reduce barriers to care.

Translated resources into other languages and published resources to our website for free access worldwide. Disseminated resources through direct clinic/provider contact as well as general public social media outreach. Patient resources helped families and communities learn about genetic conditions and inheritance patterns, connect with genetic services, understand genetic test results and make informed genetic healthcare decisions. Provider resources helped health care providers identify patients who may benefit from genetic evaluation and stay up-to-date on medical genetic guidelines.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2019 to 2020, from $169k to $626k (+271%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2017 4% · 2020 1% · 2021 24% · 2024 5%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.
16% of Genetic Support Foundation Inc’s revenue is contributions — about as donation-reliant as the typical peer (51% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 2 funders, grant income rose $5k → $5k.
1 of 6 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 0% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

How concentrated its funding is
Genetic Support Foundation Inc leans on a few funders — its largest provides 50% of grant income and the top three 91%; half comes from just 2 funders.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 100% · 2018 100% · 2020 100% · 2021 99% · 2022 100% · 2023 99% — broadly stable.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
Genetic Support Foundation Inc draws 50% of its grant income from funders outside Washington, across 5 states in all.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $195 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
