01What it does

What Funk-Zitiello Foundation Inc does

Mission

The funk-zitiello foundation was formed in 2016 with the primary purpose of raising funds for two charitable organizations: 1) the jt townsend foundation, a nonprofit organization whose mission is providing hope to the community of people with disabilities by offering financial assistance for adaptive equipment and services that will improve their quality of life; 2) mayo clinic, a nonprofit organization engaged in research and clinical trials. The gifts to mayo are directed towards pancreatic cancer research.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Donation to mayo clinic for pancreatic cancer research. The majority of the donation is for the purpose of developing new techniques and tests for the early detection of pancreatic cancer. The funk-zitiello foundation board meets with the mayo clinic research and clinical teams for an annual report on the use of the funds and updates on the advances being made for combating pancreatic cancer.

  2. Donation to the jt townsend foundation. The funds go towards the jttf programs that support people with disabilities. The funds are utilized to acquire adaptive equipment for the recipients and also for other financial assistance.

The 2 programs described on its FY2024 Form 990, listed largest first by expense.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 6 funders, grant income rose $26k → $111k.

3 of 11 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 32% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of FUNK-ZITIELLO FOUNDATION INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

FUNK-ZITIELLO FOUNDATION INC has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 35% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 3 funders to its left

81% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund FUNK-ZITIELLO FOUNDATION INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $138k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
