Program

  1. The goal of the Foundation for Mott Community College (fmcc) is to fully support mott community college (mcc) in its quest for financial stability, as it provides high quality, accessible and affordable educational opportunities for the surrounding citizenry. Mcc is the largest and most economical institution in the region and traditionally relies on property taxes, state appropriations and tuition to derive a balanced budget with the creation of the fmcc, a fourth funding stream of private gifting is added to the funding mix. All fundraising efforts assist mcc in fulfilling its scholarship and programmatic goals as well as provides emergency funding for nontraditional student crises. Each fundraising objective that has been derived is to support mcc as a leading entity in the region and as a viable resource in the college town partnership. As an under guiding principle, the fmcc is uniquely poised to support the college as it allows students to gain a skill, launch the first two years of a baccalaureate, and retain those who already have a degree and are seeking an alternative career pathway.

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 3 funders to 7 funders, grant income rose $26k → $120k.

4 of 18 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 49% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Left out of every figure on this page: $2.2M from 3 payers (the payer shares this organization's board, largest Community Foundation of Greater Flint). These are real filings, and they are not money FOUNDATION FOR MOTT COMMUNITY COLLEGE raised.

From the IRS filings of FOUNDATION FOR MOTT COMMUNITY COLLEGE’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

FOUNDATION FOR MOTT COMMUNITY COLLEGE leans on a few funders — its largest provides 46% of grant income and the top three 82%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

52% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund FOUNDATION FOR MOTT COMMUNITY COLLEGE.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $431k arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
