01What it does

What Florida Health Care Education & Development Foundation Inc does

Mission

The florida health care education and development foundation, inc. Promotes the educational and professional growth of employees in fhca member centers to support staff stability and improved outcomes of resident care. Its mission is to support a compassionate, skilled workforce that improves the lives of florida's long term and post-acute care residents.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

On its FY2024 return the organization reported starting a significant new program.

When fhca member facilities and their employees are significantly impacted by hurricanes making landfall in florida, a hurricane relief fund is established to benefit member caregivers who suffered financial losses. The foundation accepted donations to support member facility employees in the aftermath of hurricane michael in 2018, hurricane ian in 2022 and most recently in 2024 following the landfall of hurricanes milton and helene.

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 2).

  1. The foundation was established by the florida health care association in 1983 to promote scholarship programs for nurses and caregivers working in member facilities. Additionally, the foundation seeks private funding through foundations, grants and other contributions to assist member facilities with continuous quality improvement programs, workforce initiatives and emergency preparedness, response and recovery. The foundation is funded through individual and corporate donors, along with ongoing support from annual fhca fundraising events.

The program will focus on raising awareness about long term care as a opportunity for career growth, enhancing the recruitment and retention efforts of florida's nursing centers and building partnerships with statewide educational, workforce and veteransganizations to encourage individuals to make long term care their chosen career path. 1 of 2 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 33% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Left out of every figure on this page: $254k from one payer (the payer shares this organization's board, largest Florida Health Care Association Inc). These are real filings, and they are not money FLORIDA HEALTH CARE EDUCATION & DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION INC raised.

From the IRS filings of FLORIDA HEALTH CARE EDUCATION & DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

FLORIDA HEALTH CARE EDUCATION & DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 67% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

33% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund FLORIDA HEALTH CARE EDUCATION & DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION INC.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $100k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
