Mission
The mission of the foundation is to ensure uninterrupted and permanent continuation of the encyclopedia iranica as significant work of reference, archival resource, and data bank covering all aspects of iranian civilization in its widest temporal and spatial context. Such a resource, even when said to be "complete," requires not only constant updating, but also the inclusion of new entries to keep abreast of current research.

Program
The foundation supports the scholarly research and allied costs needed to produce and publish the encyclopaedia iranica and other research and publication related to the history of iranian culture. In september 2021, the foundation entered into a multi-year research agreement with the university of toronto to advance research in two thematic areas of iranian art: iranian women poets; and iranian cinema. This agreement concluded in 2025. In march 2025, the foundation entered into a multi-year research agreement with the university of california, irvine to collaborate on the research and publication of the encyclopaedia iranica.
