01What it does

What Connections for Life Inc does

Mission

Connections for life (cfl) is dedicated to helping women and women with dependent children get a new lease on life. Cfl accepts women coming from prison, treatment facilities, battered women's shelters, and other referral agencies as well as women coming in on their own. Cfl asks the residents give cfl a commitment to stay for 12 months because cfl believes that the rehabilitation process will take at least that long to build a solid foundation in their recovery.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

On its FY2023 return the organization reported a significant change in how it conducts a program.

Connections for life, inc. Has ceased its program services and thrift store operations. Now cfl's operations focus on the sale of its building and disbursement of funds in further support of its mission. The organization has not liquidated, terminated, or dissolved as of 12/31/2024.

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 3).

  1. Human services: connections for life is a transitional housing and re-entry program for women coming from prison and homelessness. Program services include a furnished apartment, transportation, food, clothing, utilities, access to medical and mental health care, job placement assistance and training, adult literacy education as needed, financial management training, family re-unification assistance and access to counseling and substance abuse meetings.

  2. Social enterprise: connections for life operates a thrift store. The store's merchandise is donated by the community and consists primarily of clothing and household items. The thrift store resells the merchandise at a low cost. The store operation is maintained by four employees who are also program participants and other volunteers from the community.

The 2 programs described on its FY2023 Form 990, listed largest first by expense. Program spending in total: $81,497.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2020 → 2023: the base narrowed from 3 funders to 1 funder, grant income fell $56k → $20.

2 of 3 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 11% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of CONNECTIONS FOR LIFE INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $6k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
