What Civic Theatre of Allentown Pa does
Mission
The mission: the theatre is dedicated to providing high-quality performing arts to enhance the quality of life in the lehigh valley community. Civic carries out its mission by presenting affordable theatre, music and art-house cinema, and by creating opportunities for adults and youth in the community to learn and apply the theatre arts, working with professionals as well as each other. In addition, workshops, classes, performances and an outreach program support the development of young people.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.
Programs
Civic's live theatre program - includes four professional mainstage productions per year and an annual theatre school production staged in the historic 500-seat nineteenth street theatre. In addition, more intimate productions, playwright events, and readings are staged in the adjacent 92-seat theatre 514. Productions range from literature-based productions, provocative dramas, broadway musicals, lesser-known off-broadway pieces and new works by local playwrights. Playwright events and readings compliment productions.

Civic also conducts an outreach program to children at academic risk through local schools, libraries and youth organizations with its arts-infused literacy promotion program, reading with cat in the hat and friends. An interactive dramatic reading by actor-facilitator in costume is followed up by class activities that promote reading as a lifetime habit. More than 80 children's roles are offered through open auditions to the annual production of a christmas carol, an intergenerational production. School matinees are offered to schools at deeply discounted ticket prices. The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2018, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2018, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2018 to 2019, from $3.3M to $6.8M (+103%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2018 1% · 2019 0% · 2020 0% · 2021 15% · 2022 54% · 2023 2% · 2024 2% · 2025 0%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.
28% of CIVIC THEATRE OF ALLENTOWN PA’s revenue is contributions — more earned-revenue than three-quarters of its peers (63% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 9 funders to 13 funders, grant income rose $94k → $149k.
6 of 33 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 9% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

CIVIC THEATRE OF ALLENTOWN PA leans on a few funders — its largest provides 36% of grant income and the top three 67%; half comes from just 2 funders.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left
25% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund CIVIC THEATRE OF ALLENTOWN PA.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 27% · 2018 61% · 2019 65% · 2020 27% · 2021 35% · 2022 33% · 2023 40% — growing more concentrated.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How long its funders stay
50% of CIVIC THEATRE OF ALLENTOWN PA's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 67% give in more than one year at all.
Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.
Where its funders are

In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $180k arriving through sponsors registered in 5 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
