01What it does

What Childrens AIDS Fund International does

Mission

CAFi works to limit suffering of HIV impacted children & families. This is done through direct services (medication, counseling, psychosocial support, nutirition, school fee assistance). This family-centered approach seeks to enable HIV-impacted children and families to flourish together physically, mentally & spiritually.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

On its FY2024 return the organization reported starting a significant new program and a significant change in how it conducts a program.

CAFI is increasingly networking community & faith leaders in the US with those globally to provide networks of support related to HIV/AIDS and other global health concerns.

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 2).

Due to Covid, a number of CAFI's global partners have closed their operations. W we are establishing relationships with other credible local community and faith-based service providers to continue serving the countries we've been assisting over the last 30 years.

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 3).

  1. CAFi provided a grant of $1,000 to an African colleague from Botswana to participate in a US based conference where he presented data from his research on best non-medical mitigation practices identified to prevent HIV/AIDS transmission that were studied by the government of Botswana.

  2. In 2022 and 2024, the largest US foreign assistance program to provide treatment and care for HIV+ individuals globally was in jeopardy (PEPFAR). A long-time advocate for and implementer of this funding, CAFI established web-based and virtual networks to share information with African partners on what was happening to the funding in the US, introducing them to US community and faith leaders as partners o provide advocacy for continued funding and education related to the ongoing HIV.AIDS pandemic that threatens to re-emerge without ongoing treatment. Despite much progress more work must be done to reach the tipping point to end its spread.

  3. CAFI leadership organized and attended multiple meetings related to the threat of losing funding for PEPFAR, the largest single foreign assistance health program established to end the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Community and faith leaders were networked and engaged in making the case for ongoing US support for the life-saving program. CAFI's efforts led to a grant, received in December 2024 ($247,000), to continue that work through 2025.

1 of 1 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 100% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of CHILDRENS AIDS FUND INTERNATIONAL’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Where its funders are

100% of CHILDRENS AIDS FUND INTERNATIONAL's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Too little is directly attributable to place on a map.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $92k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
