What Century Harvest Farms Foundation does
Mission
Our mission is to empower, create new jobs, and healthier futures for folks in recovery and who have experienced incarceration.
As stated on its FY2021 Form 990.
Program
Purpose & description: started in 2018, from the ground up (fgu) is a 14-week workforce development program designed to offer individuals who have experienced incarceration and/or who are in recovery for substance abuse an opportunity to overcome challenges they face in becoming self-sufficient and providing for themselves and their families. Program participants (called makers) accomplish this through 3 primary means see below for more details: 1) life skills education & hands-on training, 2) support services, and 3) full-time employment. We serve residents (ages 18 and up) in an 8-county region in eastern tennessee, including areas that are rural and urban. Most of fgus activities take place at Century Harvest Farms Foundations (chff) 350-acre training facility complete with a farm, commercial kitchen, and food processing center, and store where goods are sold to the public. 1) life skills education & hands-on training: makers complete 312 hours of interactive programming over the course of 39 8-hour days that take place 3 times weekly. Orientation/onboarding are completed on days 1 2. Days 3 20 are spent doing on the farm training like growing/harvesting food, haymaking, bakery,…

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2019 to 2020, from $425k to $968k (+128%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2020 3%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.
Surplus & reserves
Operating surplus or deficit each year, and months of liquidity in hand. 3 of the last 5 reported years ran a deficit.

Leadership and staff
The officers, directors, trustees and key employees listed on each return. Joined and no longer listed compare each filing with the year before, matching people by surname and first initial; a year after a gap, or a roster under three people, has no comparison.
