01What it does

What Borrego Village Association does

Mission

The purpose of the BVA is to create a thriving and attractive community surrounded by Anza Borrego Desert State Park where residents enjoy a quality lifestyle, prosperous businesses meet community needs, and well managed tourism enhances the well being of our community.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.

Programs

  1. Education, Training and Work Force Development Programs - implement a for credit Borrego Springs High School course in association with the National Association for Interpretation (NAI). Each year 8 to 10 H.S. Juniors receive professional level accreditations from NAI as Interpretive Hosts and Guides. Upon completing the program in year two students intern with Anza-Borrego Desert State Park which qualifies them for employment with CA State Parks system. Students can also intern with local civil society organizations and businesses. Over the last 7 years 120 H.S. students have completed the program. In 2023 two students began full time employment in ABDSP. Other students have received employment opportunities in the private hospitality sector.

  2. Destination Management - The Borrego Village Association (BVA) has been working closely with a volunteer committee to replace the dilapidated welcome signs that are the first things visitors and residents see when they enter Borrego Springs. Originally installed in the 1970s, these signs are now faded, out-of-date, and no longer reflect the vibrancy of our community. The new welcome signs will support both our community residents and businesses. For the first time since the 1970s our communitys full and part-time residents' will have Welcome Signs that reflect their pride in their community (pride in place). The signs will also communicate to visitors, who drive our tourism-based economy, that Borrego Springs welcomes them and will reinforce Borregos destination brand identity as a friendly, attractive and vibrant place for visitors to recreate, shop and dine. After a planning process spanning two and a half years including two community surveys and broad local outreachthree new welcome sign designs were finalized, one for each of the locations identified in the surveys. The designs were developed in partnership with Graphic Solutions, a San Diego-based firm led by Simon Andrews,…

  3. The Borrego Village Association organized and implemented Emergency First Aid - CPR Certification Training Program for Borrego Springs High School and in the community, including a Spanish language course, where a total of 71 local residents, including 9 High School students, and 15 members of our Hispanic community, who took a class specifically tailored for Spanish speakers, received certification from American CPR Training and OSHA Standard First Aid & Emergency Care. The 5-hour course curriculum resulted in the participants achieving certification in these vital health skills. These skills will help them to manage their first aid needs and contribute to the health, safety, and security of their families and our community. In addition, 3 of Borrego Spring's local professional guides successfully completed a 2-day Wilderness First Aid / CPR certification. These courses were organized in partnership with the Borrego Springs Unified School District, Borrego Springs Community Resource Center, Borrego Art Institute and the Borrego Valley Endowment Fund

The 3 programs described on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ. Program spending in total: $0.
