01What it does

What Borrego Ministers Association does

Mission

Non-profit public benefits corporation 501(c)(3) for Public and Charitable purposes. The specific purpose of this corporation is to provide direct assistance to Borrego Springs community members in need of various necessities such as food, rent, utilities, transportation, education, etc. This corporation is organized and operated exclusively for the purposes set forth within the meaning of Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3).

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Help alleviate hunger among people in the Borrego Springs area by providing prepaid food gift certificates to the local grocery stores to people suffering from food insecurity and providing grants to the local food banks. All people given direct assistance and all food bank grants are assessed and vetted for appropriate need. Throughout the year, 162 families received assistance. $1000.00 was given to BASIC for food for a children's summer education program. This program is growing and we hope to receive adequate revenue to continue. All work is volunteer. There are no service expenses.

  2. Assist families unable to pay housing expenses, usually rent, as an unexpected event. We cannot assist with rent on a continuing or long term basis, however, each need is evaluated on a case by case basis. We were able to assist 45 families throughout the year to cover part of their rent expenses to avoid eviction. This problem worsens in the summer since many seasonal workers lose employment. $39,133 in assistance was provided during the year. This program is growing and we hope to receive adequate revenue to continue. All work is volunteer. There are no service expenses.

  3. Assist families unable to pay for electricity, water, transportation, medical costs, educational costs, emergency repairs and other unexpected events. We do not provide assistance on a continuing or long-term basis, but to remedy immediate situations. Requests are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Requests for financial assistance increase during the summer when many seasonal workers lose employment. All requests are evaluated on an individual basis. We hope to receive adequate revenue to continue. All work is volunteer. There are no service expenses.

Each line starts at 100 in 2023, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2023, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.

How concentrated its funding is

BORREGO MINISTERS ASSOCIATION leans on a few funders — its largest provides 80% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

80% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund BORREGO MINISTERS ASSOCIATION.
