What Bodega Land Trust does
Mission
Our mission is to support and preserve the health and diversity of the various communities to which we belong. From its origins in the town of Bodega, the Trust has focused its efforts on protecting the local area roughly defined by the Sonoma Coast from Jenner to the Estero Americano and the watersheds of Salmon Creek and Dutch Bill Creek, a tributary of the Russian River. The Bodega Land Trust is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and restoration of land and its communities. It protects land through conservation easements, encourages wise land use practices, and promotes appreciation and knowledge of the interaction of individuals and communities with natural resources.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.
Programs
Baseline and monitoring program - reviews each easement property on site once a year (or more if necessary) to monitor compliance with easement provisions. The program recruits volunteers and trains them to do the baseline monitoring. The program also creates the baseline for all new easements along with mapping and narration, and easement restrictions and allowances. The entire community benefits from this program. The program is led by the program monitoring program director.
$31,476 spent74% of program spendingWalks and Talks - a series of walks and lectures led by local naturalists and other experts concerning environmental interests of the local area including lambing, native plants, wildfire protection, birding, geology, and archaeology. These walks and talks are open to, and benefit, all members of the community and surrounding areas. There is a small charge and the leaders usually donate their time.

For almost 12 years, BLT has held a Conservation Easement on TCR, a beautiful 187.2 acre property that includes Tannery Creek canyon and its surrounding redwoods. BLT is working with the Tannery Creek Reserve Neighborhood Association, which has forged an impressive stewardship approach for the land. The Tannery Creek Reserve is truly protected for posterity. Bodega Land Trust is currently conducting a Forest Management Plan to protect the forest in the future.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2021, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2021, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2021 to 2022, from $382k to $857k (+124%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
100% of BODEGA LAND TRUST’s revenue is contributions — more reliant on donations than three-quarters of its peers (87% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2018 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 2 funders, grant income rose $100 → $6k.
2 of 3 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 100% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of BODEGA LAND TRUST’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
BODEGA LAND TRUST leans on a few funders — its largest provides 99% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
100% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund BODEGA LAND TRUST.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2018 100% · 2019 100% · 2020 100% · 2021 100% · 2022 100% · 2023 100% — broadly stable.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
100% of BODEGA LAND TRUST's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $100 that is directly attributable, 100% of it comes from California funders.
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $40k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
