01What it does

What Bicycle Coalition of the Ozarks does

Mission

Our mission is to educate and inspire the northwest arkansas community to support planning, funding, and construction of a world-class network of bicycle infrastructure for all ages and abilities.

As stated on its FY2018 Form 990.

Program

Our focus is on educating, inspiring, and activating the grass roots community to become champions for cycling. Bikenwa developed the first bicylce safety curriculum for public schools in arkansas. Integrated into regular scheduled physical education classes, this program teaches students how to ride safely on roads and soft-surface and hard-surface trails through classroom instruction and on- bike training. Bikenwa successfully advocated for the inclusion of bike specific additions to the arkansas state driver's education manual, thereby ensuring that new drivers are aware of cyclists and fully apprised of their responsibility to share the road. Bikenwa led efforts to establish bike/walk arkansas, a statewide bicycle and pedestrian coaliton representing advocacy and user groups from around arkansas who are committed to increasing bike/ped access throughout the natural state. Bikenwa partnered with local running community to launch travel with care nwa, a regional initiative committed

The first program described on its most recent Form 990-PF.

Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2020 → 2021: the base narrowed from 3 funders to 1 funder, grant income fell $380k → $50k.

1 of 4 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 0% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Arkansas out of state home

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $5 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
