01What it does

What Ballona Discovery Park Partners does

Mission

The Ballona Discovery Park Partners mission is the ownership, preservation, protection, maintenance and enhancement of ballona discovery park and also the enhancement of recreational activities and programs primarily regarding the ballona wetlands and its watershed to benefit the general public, schools and other educational institutions.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.

Program

  1. In early 2013, k-5 students from neighboring playa vista elementary school adopted a pollinator garden plot, where the students learned how to plant and tend native plants. Since that time, the students have returned as part of their studies to observe how the garden is doing and what kinds of wildlife it has attracted and participate in a bird count. The park is a focal study site for stem teacher professional development workshops that are part of the national science foundation funded by urbanecolab curriculum.

How concentrated its funding is

BALLONA DISCOVERY PARK PARTNERS leans on a few funders — its largest provides 79% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

100% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund BALLONA DISCOVERY PARK PARTNERS.
