What Badgerbots Robotics Corporation does
Mission
Badgerbots Robotics Corporation's mission is to promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (stem) in dane county and wisconsin by engaging students in exciting hands-on, mentor-based programs that build self-confidence, develop communication and leadership skills, and create opportunities to explore stem so students will succeed in the 21st century.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.
Programs
Educational camps and workshops - we provide educational programs in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (stem) for students in third through seventh grade throughout the year. During summer, we offer weekly camps for approximately ten weeks with various themes including but not limited to general programing, robotics with lego systems, minecraft programming, and 3d printing. During the school year, we offer workshops during winter and spring breaks covering similar topics. We also have developed programs specifically designed to help girl scouts attain their stem badge. We reach more than 800 students per year through our camps and workshops.

As a pdo, we coordinate, promote, and help support fll teams through the challenges, which include building a functional robot with lego parts, programming that robot to perform missions, and developing an innovative project to address some issue of the team of the season (e.g., energy conservation, etc.). Ultimately, teams compete at tournaments that we help coordinate, including ten or more regionals around the state, two sectionals, and one championship. There are approximately 250 fll teams in wisconsin, with an average of eight participants per team.

The first part of the program consists of one-time events at libraries, farms, museums, parks, etc. Where we bring a single stem activity to share with all the children then show up. The second part of the program is a much more structured (e.g., weekly) and consistent stem curriculum with specific community centers. We have reached over 250 students of color form our cep programming.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2021 to 2022, from $207k to $304k (+47%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2020 4% · 2021 28% · 2022 14% · 2023 4% · 2024 3%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.
11% of BADGERBOTS ROBOTICS CORPORATION’s revenue is contributions — more earned-revenue than three-quarters of its peers (83% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 2 funders, grant income fell $29k → $697.
3 of 9 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 29% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of BADGERBOTS ROBOTICS CORPORATION’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 8 of 9 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
BADGERBOTS ROBOTICS CORPORATION leans on a few funders — its largest provides 63% of grant income and the top three 95%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
96% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund BADGERBOTS ROBOTICS CORPORATION.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 100% · 2018 100% · 2019 100% · 2020 100% · 2021 77% · 2022 86% · 2023 72% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How long its funders stay
20% of BADGERBOTS ROBOTICS CORPORATION's funders are still giving 2 years after their first grant; 22% give in more than one year at all.
Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.
Where its funders are
BADGERBOTS ROBOTICS CORPORATION draws 91% of its grant income from funders outside Wisconsin, across 3 states in all.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $51k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

These figures are read directly from IRS Form 990 / 990-PF e-file XML: this organization’s own return for FY2024 (financials across 2017–2024), and the filings of 9 funders that report grants to it. “On record” means captured in the filings we have parsed — a funder that does not e-file, or whose grant detail is not itemized, will not appear.
