01What it does

What Austin Mutual Aid does

Mission

Austin Mutual Aid is a grassroots organization whose mission is to empower and sustain vibrant, joyful, resilient communities. We prioritize the power of long-term, two-way relationships of exchange. We believe in the principles of solidarity, mutual aid, and autonomous direct action. We work with, listen to, and seek leadership from impacted communities, especially the most vulnerable and historically underserved members and build long- term sustainable communities that can weather any storm.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Program

  1. Austin Mutual Aid focuses our programs on the unhoused community and food insecure communities. We provide direct aid to the unhoused through camp support, harm reduction, extreme weather support, assistance with navigating social services to overcome the barriers to attain housing, and run a facebook group where more than 16 thousand community members are able to seek assistance or aid in providing it.

How concentrated its funding is

AUSTIN MUTUAL AID leans on a few funders — its largest provides 71% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

71% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund AUSTIN MUTUAL AID.
