What Asali Corporation does

Mission

Asali?s mission is to improve childhood quality of life worldwide through education, arts, and health initiatives. Asali collaborates with locally run partner organizations to develop programs focused on improving the lives of children around the world. Asali currently partners with Simba?s Footprints, an organization in Tanzania that runs after-school programming and events at its community center in Majengo, Moshi. Through mentorship, financial support, and program development assistance, Asali supports many programs at Simba?s Footprints. All projects are a collaboration between Asali and Simba?s.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.

Programs

  1. One of Asali?s major points of focus is English language development. English is critical for Tanzanian students? education, as after Standard 7 (ages 12-14), the entire education system switches from Swahili to English. Access to education beyond Standard 7 is dependent upon a passing score on the National Exam, which contains a difficult English language section. Many students are unable to complete their education because they are unable to pass the exam. Due to these challenges for the students, Asali?s flagship program is focused on increasing access to high-quality English education. Our current English initiative is two-fold: providing an English Club during school hours and teacher training after school. This year we are in 13 schools providing instruction and student teaching. Asali?s investment in the English Initiative for this fiscal year totaled $5647.63.

  2. This program includes covering student?s school fees, scholarships for youth and health insurance packages. This year, Asali is supporting 36 children receiving health insurance on the updated insurance plans that were expanded to include all medical expenses, prescriptions and surgeries at multiple hospitals across Tanzania. Asali?s investment in Children and Youth for this fiscal year totaled $5423.07.

  3. The music program continues to grow both in number and students abilities. We were able to add additional instruments to the studio and a computer which will allow the students to start recording. This year the music students participated in a variety of community events where they were able to showcase their talents. The growth in their skills is evident to everyone who watches them perform. Simba?s has started a fully functional band providing income for the members trained at the community center. We believe by providing future education opportunities to the young people in our community, we can impact the community?s high unemployment rate and reduce dependence. We have also dedicated funds to repairing and maintaining instruments, providing students with performance attire, and keeping our experienced staff available to provide lessons and support to our students. This year, Asali has provided $1262.19 to the music program.

  4. Asali continued to fund a Sustainability Project, otherwise known as ?The Chicken Project? at Simba?s Community Center. The aim of this project is to generate local income to cover overhead costs of the organization and to teach older adolescents who were no longer attending school life skills. Oftentimes families that have the ability to raise poultry have more regular access to food and can also generate income for their families. Our hope is that giving these adolescents access to this type of life skill education allows them to become entrepreneurs and take ownership of their lives and futures. This year Simba?s has added maize production to the agriculture project. We have five acres of operating farmland. The total invested in this program development is $1222.92.

1 of 1 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 100% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of Asali Corporation’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Where its funders are

100% of Asali Corporation's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Too little is directly attributable to place on a map.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $155 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
