What Art Sandy Springs Inc does
Mission
Art sandy springs (artss) is a 501(c)(3) organization found in 2007 by a group of community volunteers and is managed by a volunteer board of directors. Artss enriches the quality of life for sandy springs residents and visitors through the acquisition and placement of public art in the city's parks and open spaces.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.
Programs
The abernathy arts center - fulton county sold the abernathy arts center to the city of sandy springs for a nominal sum in early 2022. The city of sandy springs decided to resurrect art instruction, principally painting and drawing, at the center. Art instruction resumed in september 2022 and has been very successful. The entire program was assmbled and managed by art sandy springs under a contract to manage this municipal facility. In the year ending on 05/31/2025, just under 1,100 students enrolled in art classes and in the childrens summer art camp. The city of sandy springs acknowledges success and just renewed the contract for a third (out of five) one-year optional renewal period.
$230,017 spent$259,954 earned by the program98% of program spendingThe annual art ss walk sculpture competition is governed by a memorandum of understanding with the city of sandy springs. Each spring, artss puts out a call for entries and holds an outdoor sculpture competition. This yields some 90 entries and nine finalists are selected each year. Their works are displayed at city green at the sandy springs municipal center for a period of one year. During the may 2025 meeting when the city council was to vote on the final selections, the council voted instead to defer any selections indefinitely citing an overabundance of sculptures including some which have not been placed permanenty on municipal property. This initiative remains in abayence.

The city engaged artss in this three-year project of a nationwide artist search to commission two sculptures for the new veterans park in sandy springs for a total fee of 15,000. Artss worked with city leadership and a committee of veteran residents to review a total of 30 qualified entrants and then selected four artist finalists who were each paid stipends to create design presentations. Two artists were then chosen to create original sculpture works and artss managed the contracts, final design, fabrication and installations of the artwork. This project was successfully completed on time and the sculptures were dedicated in a ceremony on veterans day 2024.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2023, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2023, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2023 to 2024, from $27k to $77k (+182%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2024 18%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.
7% of ART SANDY SPRINGS INC’s revenue is contributions — more earned-revenue than three-quarters of its peers (64% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base narrowed from 3 funders to 1 funder, grant income fell $1k → $1k.
1 of 8 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 54% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
Left out of every figure on this page: $10k from one payer (the payer shares this organization's board, largest The Sandy Springs Society Inc). These are real filings, and they are not money ART SANDY SPRINGS INC raised.
From the IRS filings of ART SANDY SPRINGS INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
ART SANDY SPRINGS INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 54% of grant income and the top three 78%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
54% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund ART SANDY SPRINGS INC.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 48% · 2018 38% · 2019 52% · 2020 100% · 2022 80% · 2023 100% — growing more concentrated.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How long its funders stay
25% of ART SANDY SPRINGS INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 38% give in more than one year at all.
Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.
Where its funders are
54% of ART SANDY SPRINGS INC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $11k that is directly attributable, 100% of it comes from Georgia funders.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $12k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
