01What it does

What Art of Brooklyn Festival does

Mission

The Art of Brooklyn Film Festival is an annual event that brings Brooklyns celebrated film and media makers together with their peers across the country and around the world. AoBFF is a filmmaker-focused event, platform and showcase for exciting emerging creators and established voices. We partner with film distributors and media organizations, host world-class talkbacks, create innovative programming for networking and skill building, and screen in independent theaters for enthusiastic audiences across Brooklyn. Founded by working artists in 2011, 37 festival premieres have gotten theatrical distribution to date and one became an HBO series. We have held events in 24 different venues in 13 neighborhoods across Brooklyn (so far,) partnering with local businesses and organizations to reach the widest possible audience.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.

Program

  1. We invited filmmakers Eden Martinez to curate Narrative Shorts, Daniel Feighery to curate Docs and Derek Garcia for Narrative Features. We held film screenings at AbleCine in Industry City Brooklyn, Film Noir Cinema, 100 Sutton event space, and Stuart Cinema (all in Greenpoint Brooklyn). We also produced free outdoor screenings on Fulton Street Brooklyn. We created over 60 videos (filmmaker, interviews, promotional trailers) for social media. We screened 55 new films in person for diverse audiences from NYC and beyond, and also streamed them online for audiences across the US using the Eventive Virtual Festival Platform. We held Screenplay Competitions with industry prizes including seminars from Roadmap Writers, consultations with film producers, and AoBFF passes.

1 of 1 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 100% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of ART OF BROOKLYN FESTIVAL’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Where its funders are

100% of ART OF BROOKLYN FESTIVAL's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Too little is directly attributable to place on a map.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $65 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
