What ANGELS WITHOUT WINGS INC Animals in War & Peace / Sgt Reckless Memorial Fund does
Mission
Angels Without Wings, Inc (AWW) supports and raises awareness of groups/people helping people or animals in need, and honors those that have a special bond with others or animals. It also honors those that have served our country. Our slogan is, "We all can be Angels ... if we try!" Animals in War & Peace (AWP) honors animals that have served our country during war and peacetime with monuments, Medals of Bravery, and Distinguished Service Medals. We are doing a traveling museum now to teach history through the eyes of the animals through displays, educational programs, and talks. The Sgt Reckless Memorial Fund raises awareness about the Korean War, and spreads the story of Sgt. Reckless, America's greatest war horse who served during the Korean War. There are six monuments to her around the country.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990-EZ.
Programs
On its FY2025 return the organization reported starting a significant new program.
A larger than life monument of Grizzly 399 and her 4 cubs will be placed at the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson, WY. Grizzly 399 touched the hearts of millions of fans with her remarkable story of resilience, motherhood, and grace, and transcended the boundaries for wildlife observation, captivating the hearts of those that followed her journey. She became an ambassador for wildlife conservation -- a symbol of hope, an inspiration, and was a true testament to the delicate balance of nature. More than a tribute to an extraordinary bear, the monument celebrates the inspiration she provided and the awareness she brought to the critical challenges facing grizzly bear populations and the urgent need to protect their habitat. She was a true Angel Without Wings in that regard.
Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 2).
A Monument Honoring the Human/Horse Connection: One of horse racing's most inspiring stories involves the almost mystical connection between the 2023 Horse of the Year Cody's Wish and his namesake, Cody Dorman, a young man born with a rare genetic disorder, Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome, that confined him to a wheelchair and limited his communication to a tablet. "The Bond: Two Hearts - One Spirit" is a monument that celebrates the extraordinary human/horse relationship, and the power of love. The monument is designed to allow people in wheelchairs to roll up and place their hands on the horse's nose, looking into the eyes of this remarkable animal and experiencing the same connection that Cody and Cody's Wish shared. An accompanying black granite engraved wall features the iconic photograph of Cody Dorman and Cody's Wish. Those not in wheelchairs are also able to feel the spirit of "The Bond" as they stand alongside or in front of the bronze monument, touching the horse's nose and looking into its eyes. These two are both Angels Without Wings, as this story took the world by storm and gave love, meaning and connection to those that followed it, and it is our hope that everyone will…

More than a tribute to an extraordinary bear, the monument celebrates the inspiration she provided and the awareness she brought to the critical challenges facing grizzly bear populations and the urgent need to protect their habitat. Since first appearing in Grand Teton National Park in 2007, Grizzly 399 became the most photographed grizzly bear in the world and an unforgettable ambassador for wildlife conservation. Through her remarkable story of resilience, motherhood, and grace, she captivated millions, forging an extraordinary connection between people and the natural world. 399 became far more than a wildlife icon. She was a symbol of hope, coexistence, and the fragile balance of nature, inspiring countless people to value and protect the wild places that sustain these magnificent animals. The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2021, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2021, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2023 to 2024, from $18k to $109k (+498%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
100% of ANGELS WITHOUT WINGS INC Animals in War & Peace / Sgt Reckless Memorial Fund’s revenue is contributions — more reliant on donations than three-quarters of its peers (91% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
Grant support over time, funder by funder — shade shows the grant size each year.
1 of 2 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 80% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
ANGELS WITHOUT WINGS INC Animals in War & Peace / Sgt Reckless Memorial Fund leans on a few funders — its largest provides 80% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
80% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund ANGELS WITHOUT WINGS INC Animals in War & Peace / Sgt Reckless Memorial Fund.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
80% of ANGELS WITHOUT WINGS INC Animals in War & Peace / Sgt Reckless Memorial Fund's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $5k that is directly attributable, 100% of it comes from funders outside California, across 1 state.
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $20k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
