01What it does

What Amistad Movement Power does

Mission

Organizes and educates individuals impacted by mass incarceration to build progressive power.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990-EZ.

Program

  1. Base power meetings: amp co-hosted two meetings, held prior to the primary and general elections, targeted towards our formerly incarcerated and family member base to hear from candidates running for attorney general, state representative and state senate, as well as progressive elected officials. Members had the opportunity to engage with candidates and elected officials about their record and positions on mass incarceration and second chances. Additionally, we co-hosted a post-election debrief mass meeting to discuss how the election results impacted the anti-mass incarceration movement and to encourage our base to continue to be involved in state and local advocacy. Volunteer canvassing program: amp helped to coordinate a base of volunteers who are people who are directly impacted or deeply care about mass incarceration in pennsylvania. These volunteers participated in canvassing in the west philadelphia and germantown neighborhoods of philadelphia on the weekends leading up to the spring primary election, sharing information with voters about the elections while also identifying others who also care about mass incarceration and might want to get more involved with our work.…

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

100% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund AMISTAD MOVEMENT POWER.
