What American Council of Engineering Companies does
Mission
The business association and voice of america's engineering industry, representing thousands of independent u.s. Engineering companies engaged in the development of transportation, water, and other public and commercial facilities.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.
Programs
Government advocacy: the council undertakes a wide range of public policy and advocacy activities. The council advocates with congress and federal agencies for passage and implementation of legislation, policies and procedures that promote and protect the engineering industry.
Meetings, exhibits, & awards:the council plans and executes national conferences and events that bring together member firms, industry partners, and engineering professionals, including the annual convention and fall conference. These gatherings feature exhibit halls connecting member firms with products and services relevant to their business operations. The council also produces the engineering excellence awards program, a national competition in which entries first earn recognition through one of acec's 51 state and metropolitan member organizations before advancing to national-level judging by an independent jury of industry, government, and academic experts. The program culminates in a formal awards gala recognizing outstanding engineering achievements across the country.
Business resources and education:the council provides business resources to help engineering firms improve their business operations and bottom lines, including leadership development programs; in-person and online education programming; contract documents; publications; and market insights and trends to inform business decisions.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2021, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2021, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2021 to 2022, from $17M to $32M (+89%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Surplus & reserves
Operating surplus or deficit each year, and months of liquidity in hand. 0 of the last 5 reported years ran a deficit.

Leadership and staff
The officers, directors, trustees and key employees listed on each return. Joined and no longer listed compare each filing with the year before, matching people by surname and first initial; a year after a gap, or a roster under three people, has no comparison.
