Program
#1 grantmaking to support fully ordained theravada buddhist nuns (bhikkhunis) and their monasteries: because of the vinaya (code of monastic disciplinary rules), bhikkhunis cannot directly ask the non-ordained public for support to address even their most basic needs for living (food, clothing, shelter, and medicine). Our organization's website provides a religiously acceptable platform for the public to offer charitable contributions of financial support to bhikkhunis, and invites requests of support (pavarana) from nuns and monasteries. In the 2021 period, grants were made to support approximately 40 various individual bhikkhunis, groups of bhikkhunis, and buddhist monasteries. In addition to providing support for basic living expenses (food, clothing, shelter, medicine), grants are available to support the development of bhikkhunis' monastic/religious vocations, and the buddhist communities they serve. Many recent grants were in response to covid-related hardships (such as travel restrictions) and other pandemic-related requests for support.
