01What it does

What Alianza Community Schools Inc does

Mission

Monarca academy eliminates barriers to success for all students. Inspired by the latin@ and immigrant experience we develop leaders through high academic standards (ganas), cultural responsiveness (orgullo), and community building (comunidad).

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Monarca academy's enrollment efforts this year resulted in the school exceeding its enrollment goal of 210 students, serving 216 students across grades 6-8. The school enrolled 71 sixth graders, 71 seventh graders, and 74 eighth graders, surpassing projected targets in all grade levels. Demand for monarca academy's model led to waitlists in both sixth and seventh grade, with the incoming sixth grade class reaching full capacity months before summer. Although monarca academy continued to participate in community events throughout the international market district, the primary driver of enrollment this year was family word-of-mouth, reflecting strong satisfaction with the school's academic program and safe, culturally affirming environment. Staff still provided individual school tours upon request, serving dozens of prospective families, but unlike prior years, large-scale outreach was not required to meet or exceed enrollment goals. As a result, monarca academy has already filled its capacity for the upcoming school year and anticipates maintaining waitlists as long as space remains limited.

  2. Monarca academy expanded its visual & performing arts program this year to serve 100% of its 216 students through a broadened set of arts courses and community-based performance opportunities. In addition to continuing partnerships in dance, music, and cultural arts, the school launched a new media arts course, providing students with hands-on experience in digital storytelling, video production, and creative design. This addition strengthened monarca's arts pathway and increased the number of weekly arts instructional hours available to students.throughout the year, students participated in multiple community-facing arts events. Monarca academy was invited to perform at la plaza's night of the americas, a major cultural celebration that will showcase student talent to hundreds of attendees across central indiana. Students also performed in a dia de muertos choir presentation in partnership with christ church cathedral, an event that brought together families, community members, and local artists to honor cultural traditions through music.

  3. Monarca academy made significant progress this year toward launching its first 9th grade cohort for the 2026-2027 school year, completing all major planning milestones and securing full enrollment well in advance. The inaugural class will serve 80 students, including 64 of monarca academy's current 8th grade students and additional students enrolling from other indianapolis schools. The objective of this expansion is to establish a rigorous, college preparatory high school pathway that extends monarca academy's mission and provides continuity for families in the international market district.to support the development of the high school and strengthen student services, monarca academy secured a $2 million grant from the lilly endowment to implement a full service community school model, including the adoption of city connects. This model will provide coordinated academic, social-emotional, and family support services to hundreds of students each year, ensuring that the high school opens with a comprehensive system of care.monarca academy also received a $300,000 capacity award from the mind trust to support leadership development, staffing, program design, and operational…
