What Airport Research & Development Foundation does
Mission
The foundation's purpose is to receive, administer and expend funds for charitable, scientific and educational purposes in connection with air travel and transportation security.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.
Programs
App-based transportation (abt) refers to so-called "ride-share" companies such as uber, sidecar and lyft, as well as limos and app-based taxi services who provide on-demand transportation services to individuals via a smartphone app. Ardf's abt program allows the airport to collect the requisite ground transportation fees, have necessary permitting in place to limit liability and allow their travelers to fully leverage the convenience of abt. In return, beginning in 2016, ardf collects administrative services fees from the airports for these services, which include collecting and remitting all fees on the airport's behalf.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2023 to 2024, from $14M to $8.9M (−37%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2017 30% · 2018 20% · 2019 17% · 2020 30% · 2021 30% · 2022 22% · 2023 17% · 2024 12%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.

Who funds it, year by year
Grant support over time, funder by funder — shade shows the grant size each year.
1 of 1 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 100% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of AIRPORT RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
100% of AIRPORT RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Too little is directly attributable to place on a map.
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $10k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
