Mission

Above & beyond children's museum (abcm) fosters exploration, imagination, and joy through immersive, play-based learning for all children and families.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Program

On its FY2024 return the organization reported starting a significant new program and a significant change in how it conducts a program.

During 2024, above & beyond children's museum (abcm) expanded its early childhood and family engagement programs to meet growing community demand for accessible, play-based learning opportunities that promote social- emotional wellness and family connection. Building on its "play is healing" framework, abcm introduced new initiatives including the early childhood music programming and collab club, a partnership with the boys & girls club of sheboygan county providing after-school enrichment through hands-on stem and arts-based play. Collectively, these efforts served more than 5,000 children and caregivers across sheboygan county.

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 2).

During 2024, above & beyond children's museum underwent a comprehensive rebranding and mission update to better reflect its commitment to inclusive, community-centered, and play-based learning. The organization refined its guiding statement to emphasize fostering exploration, imagination, and joy through immersive play, and realigned program priorities under new strategic initiatives focused on access, inclusion, and family engagement. As part of this transition, abcm restructured and expanded existing programming to strengthen impact, improve alignment with community needs, and support long-term sustainability. These updates built on the museum's foundational work in early childhood education and family wellness while positioning it for continued growth and partnership across sheboygan county and beyond.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2019 → 2023: the base narrowed from 3 funders to 2 funders, grant income rose $40k → $126k.

7 of 12 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 85% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of ABOVE & BEYOND CORPORATION’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

ABOVE & BEYOND CORPORATION leans on a few funders — its largest provides 32% of grant income and the top three 77%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

90% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund ABOVE & BEYOND CORPORATION.

How long its funders stay

25% of ABOVE & BEYOND CORPORATION's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 50% give in more than one year at all.

Where its funders are

85% of ABOVE & BEYOND CORPORATION's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $85k that is directly attributable, 80% of it comes from Wisconsin funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $480k arriving through sponsors registered in 5 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
