01What it does

What A Time 2 Read Inc does

Mission

A Time 2 Read is a partnership with local school districts to strengthen 2nd-grade students and enable them to enter third-grade reading on grade level. A Time 2 Read takes an active role in the development of children in public schools through the presence of volunteers focused on literacy. Our volunteers serve for 1 hour a week during the school day supporting two 2nd-grade students, one each for 30 minutes using a simple sight word approach. We also provide books through the summer backpack program for the students to enhance literacy while not in school. We tutor 2nd grade students, not just to invest in their reading skills but to impact them for life. These consistent weekly sessions with the same adult provides them with encouragement and support that makes them feel valued and empowered. The organization has expanded to provide support for all four elementary schools and their staff. A Time 2 Read also offers senior scholarships for students attending college.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.

Programs

  1. The summer backpack program provides each second grader in the school district with a bag of novels, word lists, word games, stickers, bookmarks, etc to foster their love of reading and hopes they will read over the summer to maintain reading level prior to 3rd grade. For 2025, provided backpacks to 450 second grade students.

  2. Teacher and school appreciation expenses are incurred to support 2nd grade teachers and administration in all 4 elementary schools in the district as we pull students from classrooms in an effort to tutor and support students. The teachers do so much work to encourage the students so it is our way to give back to them in the form of meals, gift cards and school supplies

  3. Salaries for one full time employee and 3 contract employees that run and manage the program. These employees facilitate pre and post testing to determine students in the program as well as the results. Employees and contract workers are essential for being the face on each of the 4 campuses as we show up throughout the week for tutoring. They each manage their own campus communicating with teachers, administration, and volunteers.

  4. The organization issues scholarships to graduating high school seniors within the district that have need and a plan to attend college. Students are selected by the board and hopefully soon will reward students who have been impacted by the A Time 2 Read Program. This year 3 scholarships were awarded for $1,000 each.

1 of 2 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 0% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Largest funder’s share by year: 2020 100% · 2021 100% · 2022 100% · 2023 100% — broadly stable.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Where its funders are

100% of A TIME 2 READ INC's grant income comes from Texas funders.

TX

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $75 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
