As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. 603 Legal Aid (603la) serves as new hampshire's (nh) entry point for civil legal services, providing critical legal assistance to low-income residents across the state. Funding comes from a combination of federal, state, foundation, cy pres, and individual sources. 603la serves diverse populations including survivors of domestic violence, tenants facing eviction, individuals navigating family law matters, low-income taxpayers in disputes with the irs, people seeking consumer debt relief, individuals needing name changes or criminal record annulments, and veterans with civil and va-specific legal needs. Key funders include the legal services corporation (lsc), the u.s. Department of veterans affairs (va), and the irs low-income taxpayer clinic (litc) program. (cont'd sch. O)additionally, the nh department of justice funds services for domestic violence victims through victims of crime act (voca) and violence against women act (vawa) awards. This includes 603la's renowned domestic violence emergency (dove) pro bono project which for 30 years has connected survivors to attorney volunteers for legal representation at final domestic violence and stalking protective order hearings.…

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 3 funders, grant income rose $497k → $1.4M.

3 of 6 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 2% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Left out of every figure on this page: $1.4M from one payer (the payer shares this organization's board, largest New Hampshire Legal Assistance Inc). These are real filings, and they are not money 603 LEGAL AID raised.

From the IRS filings of 603 LEGAL AID’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

603 LEGAL AID leans on a few funders — its largest provides 75% of grant income and the top three 99%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

100% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund 603 LEGAL AID.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $170k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
